Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:

Yet I will rejoice in the LORD,

I will joy in the God of my salvation.

The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.

resolutions

today i resolve that i must use the rest of my spring break for something other than

sleeping.

seriously, if you actually knew how much time i've spent just sleeping this week, you'd think i was sick, alien, hibernating, or 4 years old.

but isn't it wonderful? i know the reason... i don't like alarms. they are the worst. so this week i thought, hm, i'll give myself a break from waking up unpleasantly to the sound of an alarm. oh ho ho ho, big mistake. i forgot that i don't wake up otherwise. without an alarm, really loud noise, or person shaking me awake i will just sleep for hours and hours. i'm not sure i would ever wake up, because i can't remember the last time i just slept until i woke up. one time i slept through our car breaking down and being pushed down the side of the road.

so for the rest of the week the alarm will go off at a psuedo-reasonable hour, and things will actually be accomplished. applications will be sent, muffins will be baked, desks will be cleaned, ice skates will be used, pancakes will be eaten.

deelightful music video for my very favorite song

that's a dealbreaker, ladies!

so today my art history class took a class trip to the kimbell art museum, and before we left i was talking to a girl in the class about dealbreakers.

she just broke up with her boyfriend over something that came up that was, i believe, rather a silly thing to break up about. but then, of course, if it was more important to her than her relationship... why hallo there, priorities monster!

it got me to thinking, though... and i realise i'm not terribly picky. i mean, i am picky, but there are very few things that would make me break it off with someone who was wonderful in all other respects.

he likes lady gaga? slightly worrisome, but not too worrisome in the long run.
he spends his weekends at computer technology conferences? ... ok. fine. i can get over it.
his favorite flower is the purple begonia? whatever.

AND THEN our teacher calls us to get in the carpool van, and as i sit down next to the guy i'll be sitting next to for the next hour and a half, i remember it.

my dealbreaker.

old spice.

never ever ever ever ever ever EVER will i be with someone who insists on wearing old spice. EVER. EVER EVER EVER.

explainations and pauses

i haven't felt much like blogging recently. actually i haven't much felt like doing anything recently. and tacy (my laptop) is at the computer hospital getting her appendix out, so that's kind of helping me along in this.

it's a strange mix of ennui and senioritis.

so bear with me. i'm coming back around. i can always tell that i'm not as ok as i could be when i stop writing and just have no urge to blog at all.

i'll be back in a few days with renewed vim and vigour!

oh, Teedie

ran across this delightful story in "Mornings on Horseback" today, and just had to share-

"When Teddy was a very small child, his older sister Mittie had found he was so afraid of the Madison Square Church that he refused to set foot inside if alone and so she pressed him to tell her why. He was terrified, she discovered, of something called the "Zeal." It was crouched in the dark corners of the church ready to jump at him, he said. When she asked what a Zeal might be, he said he was not sure, but thought it was probably a large animal like an alligator or a dragon. He had heard the minister read about it from the Bible.

Using a concordance, she read him those passages containing the word "zeal" until suddenly, very excited, he told her to stop.

"And his disciples remembered that it was written,
The Zeal of thy house hath eaten me up"
John 2:17
