wha?
ok, so everyone has heard the phrase "niceties", and you know what it means- little things people say that are nice to say but are just things to say to alleviate awkward moments... they bug me. but what about MEANITYS? seriously, people, i've heard more meanitys than nicities this week! a meanity is when someone makes a statement or a joke that is meant to be funny, and isn't true at all but they just said it because it was funny and in some other relationship it might possibly be true.
just because there could be someone in the world who would say that and mean it doesn't mean that you should say it!
example:
teenage guy 1: this chicken is really bad.
teenage guy 2: yeah, like my mom's cooking, like, all the time.
or
teenage girl 1: what do you think of teenage guy 1?
teenage girl 2: oh, i dunno, hes kinda oblivious and not that bright
teenage girl 1: yeah, but all guys are, right girl?
come on people!

oh the mental images
between classes today i walked over to walgreens with two friends to get index cards, powdered creamer for the lunchroom, and superglue, and as we were standing there in the office supply aisle, we heard this over the loudspeakers:
"employee needed for customer assistance in the shaving department!"
this brought some rather funny mental images.

what i did over spring break
enjoyed a much needed three days at my best friends house.
read the great gatsby and got rehooked on books.
spent an afternoon with my sister and a lovely evening with my sister and brother watching firefly. we finished the series and watched the movie, serenity, and i'm still a bit disturbed that they killed off one of my favorite characters! no! not wash! ... and now i'm wondering why they called the series firefly. hmm. if you have any insight into that please tell me!
cleaned my room. (its covered in homework again, though.)
spent a day doing almost nothing!
with caitlin's help, i bought fabric for the quilt i'm starting. yes i know, quilts don't really seem like something i'd be likely to start and complete, but this one is different. i really love the fabric and the pattern, and i'll post pics of the fabric soon!
went to a grreat church meeting at my church, and got to know my church family a lot better. funny how that works- i didn't actually spend much time talking to visitors, but i really feel a lot closer to the people i go to church with every sunday than i was before
i'm relatively sure i did more than this...

C.S. Lewis
"A creature revolting against a creator is revolting against the source of his own powers--including even his power to revolt...It is like the scent of a flower trying to destroy the flower."

que? what?
from whence comes the que in barbeque?
there are a lot of stories explaining this, and unfortunately i found out today that my favorite of these stories is classified as a myth.
the story goes that a group of french people visited the carribean and saw a pig being roasted whole on a spit over a fire, and said the cooking stake went "barbe a queue," or "from beard to tail.
oh dear, now i'm very hungry.
