tonight i had peas, peppers, and pie for dinner. it was tasty.
feeling a bit under the weather (absolutely ridiculous phrase by the way) ... in a really annoying way. my throat hurts, and though i feel like i've a rather high fever, every time i take my temperature (which is often, thanks to the delightfully amusing beep the thermometer makes when it's done. one can't help but try again.) it says i'm actually disturbingly below the normal temperature. as in... 96.8.
sceeeeeeeered!

would that make him genghis khan?
did i mention i met Darryl Flood on saturday? Darryl Flood the packing shipping and moving mongul? er... maybe that's not the word. anyway, after being up quite late friday night, Emily had to work at 8, so i went with her.
we had a terribly silly 4 hour receptionisting time (thriller and hide-and-go-seek were involved... mostly by me. she was being responsible, and also there was a security camera.), and near the end, when i had just done my hair up very silly and was impersonating a ditz rather dramatically, guess who walks in but this mongul! (still sounds wrong, so wrong!) so the feller comes up, shakes the old hand and says, "So now you know there really is a Darryl Flood" and then off he went to a soccer game! and it was at that moment i realised my hair looked like a poodle (not like a poodle's hair, like an entire poodle), and to be quite honest i thought that was hilarious.
pictures and videos to come... hopefully. cross your fingers on the video, i highly doubt i'm that technological.

cecil alexander beatley, hater of spunk, reader of books, and... chef?
dear readers,
you will be shocked by what you are about to read. we all know dear cecil alexander's predominant personality traits, so i feel explaination of his distaste for spunk of any kind and for silliness is unnecessary. but today, on coming home from church, i walked into my room and was shocked to find him intensely studying "the joy of cooking."
this isn't silly, you say? he could be studying how to roast a pig or something serious, you say? oh no. he was learning how to glaze donuts. he had also copied a recipe for baked alaska.
meanwhile, my dear percival was pretending to sleep and dr. george (the owl) was hopping up and down on his shelf in excitement.
it's been an interesting day here. i'm going to go have a little talk with cecil. perhaps i'll make him watch hsm3 so he can reach for his dreams without shame. ;)

the bard and the bully
i think i've mentioned the shakespeare class i'm teaching this year... (loving it, by the way!) ... and i've been so impressed and excited by how quick all the kids are and how eager to learn, by some in particular. i know that having favorites is bad, but if i were to have a favorite it would probably be Jared.
12, blonde, TONS of freckles, and always so unabashedly enthusiastic about the play and about learning. it's wonderful to see him not be ashamed by his interest in the subject, especially at that age, where such things are apparently uncool. so last week we were having a nice little discussion of the roman conspirators and what character traits/flaws led up to them deciding to assasinate caesar, and Jared started talking about it, and as he spoke he got more and more excited and breathy and loud, quite earnestly. here are his thoughts:
" well... i mean, caesar wasn't all that girly (looks around at all the girls in the class) ... uh, i mean weak, but cassius kept talking about what a sissy he was, and that he couldn't swim so that meant his brain was weak, and all the conspirators were so much better than him and they could swim too, so they assasinated him! so i think cassius was just... well... well... he was just a BIG FAT BULLY!"

oh jack... how i love you. really. aunt(ish) claire wants to play in the mud too... but perhaps not with these exact results. i'm feeling the distance between here and austin rather horribly this week! the greatest thing of all would be a good talk with jamie and jason.

Kite Day - 3/10/09
and finally someone wins!
after three fail posts, it's time for a win! and what win is better than a cupcake win? i would dearly love to have this cupcake table and cupcake seat... but i fear they would make me hungry all the time, and it wouldn't be broccoli i was hungry for, it would be CUPCAKES!
