"Some day we'll awake, have a reformation of the heart, teach our kids honor and kill a few sex psychologists, put boys in high schools to themselves with men teachers (not sissies), close all the girls finishing schools, shoot all the efficiency experts and become a nation of God's people once more."

Not wild about his politics, but love the man. If you have some time to spare for a spectacular and enlightening book, may I suggest "Truman" by David McCullough. A wonderful book, that I have loved till the pages are falling out.
That's an amazing bit of journalling, in that he expresses pessimism and optimism at the same time. Or do you think it was just muttered as cynical daydreaming?
He was dead-on about schools... would that someone had listened to him way back then on that score.
Do you know the year that entry was written?
